Somia Sadiq’s academic background is in impact assessment and community engagement. As an impact assessment practitioner, she works to understand how proposed actions would impact the environment (both physical, biological, and human).
With respect to her long-term goals; given her background in impact assessment, she would like to explore if an impact assessment model used in predicting and later measuring effectiveness of mitigation measures can be applied to evaluating CVE and Deradicalization programs. Somia would also like to consider the role of local knowledge in developing an evaluation framework by tapping into research from the fields of impact assessment, peace and conflict studies, crisis response mechanisms, disaster management, and safety and security studies. Somia has completed a Graduate Certificate program through START (University of Maryland). She is currently a PhD student at Leiden University.
