Vanessa’s research interests centre broadly on the intersections of law, money, risk, and security. She is interested in how institutional and individuals manage the risks they encounter in different financial contexts, including retail banking, real estate, and kinship caregiving.
She is currently a co-investigator on a TSAS grant with Dr. Sandra Bucerius, investigating the engagement of real estate agents with Canadian counter-terrorist financing legislation in British Columbia and Alberta. This project engages with literature on the sociology of risk and economic sociology. Vanessa is also working on a book that examines the creation and implementation of Canada’s anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing complex.
