Valentine Crosset

Junior Affiliate (PhD)

Valentine Crosset is a PhD candidate in Criminology at Université de Montréal.

She is interested in online manifestations of violent extremism, more specifically pertaining to Salafist-Jihadist groups. Her research examines how extremist groups disseminates violent propaganda through online channels and, more particularly, via social media and encrypted messaging application by means of qualitative and ethnographic methods. Further to this, she dedicates her time to examining the latest techniques, most recent methods and innovative tools that violent communities wield to increase online visibility, to circumvent suspension or exclusion from digital platforms, and to prevent intrusions from adversaries on these platforms. Her research interests include as well the governance and regulation that frame responses to online extremism.
