Simon Gonsalves, a reservist within the Canadian Armed Forces, sees the threat of terrorism and how the state security apparatus should correctly counter as of critical importance. As a Public Affairs Officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, national reactions to terrorist plots and attacks is highly relevant. He is currently working towards a Master’s in International Public Policy at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, his aspiration is to become a policy analyst/officer within the Canadian government. Whether working for Public Safety Canada, CSIS, or the Department of Defense, the impact of terrorism, radicalization, and securitization on Canadian society will likely loom large over his career.
