Junior Affiliate (PhD)

Serdar San was a law enforcement officer who worked in units responsible for counterterrorism and international police cooperation and is now as a doctoral student who works in the field of terrorism, security studies and the societal implications of terrorism and security at the University of Toronto. His research interests include the policing of terrorism and countering violent extremism (CVE) strategies and practices, both of which are directly relevant to TSAS’s work. San’s MA thesis was a comparative and critical examination of counterterrorism policies of Turkey and Canada with a specific focus on the role of law enforcement agencies in state counterterrorism activities. He has also recently published in Policing and Society an article on Turkish National Police countering violent extremism (CVE) strategies.
