Senior Research Affiliate

George Weir is a Lecturer in the Computer & Information Sciences Department at the University of Strathclyde.

He is pursuing collaborative research on cybercrime and security with Canadian colleagues at Simon Fraser University, with a specific focus on detection and measurement of online terrorist-related content.

For the past six years or so, he has engaged in academic research in computer security, cybercrime and digital forensics.  He has published widely in these knowledge domains and developed extensive links to academics, law enforcement and other agencies worldwide.  His research is broadly focussed upon security, counter-crime and counter-terrorism.

In collaboration with colleagues at the International Cybercrime Research Centre (ICRC) at Simon Fraser University, he is pursuing research on terrorist web content, with a view to automated detection, measurement and analysis of such content.  This builds upon his earlier research on cybercrime and content analysis and dovetails with current research activities at the ICRC.  This collaboration is expected to lead to major practical developments in terrorism detection and associated benefits in national security for Canada and the UK
