Bukola Solomon

Junior Affiliate (PhD)

Bukola Solomon is a Ph.D. Candidate at the Balsillie School of International Affairs, whose research seeks to investigate the current understanding of gender and its role in preventing and countering violent extremism. In particular, her preliminary research in the field has highlighted a significant gap: programs aimed at incorporating a gender-based approach still only but ‘add women and stir’. There is still a need for expanding the notion of gender sensitivity beyond the narratives of women as victims, perpetrators, or agents of change and include men, gender stereotypes, notions of masculinities/femininities as elements of the preventing and countering violent extremism security landscape.
